There are three recommended ways of travel to Bratislava.

From most locations, the fastest way is by plane.

If you can get a flight to Bratislava Airport (BTS), you are all set, the airport has a bus stop for public transport so getting from there to the city is easy.

However, you are more likely to be able to fly to Vienna Airport (VIE) which is also nearby: a 45-minute bus ride away from the Bratislava city center. The buses from VIE to Bratislava are quite frequent. The buses are run by three different companies. You can purchase tickets for a specific bus online in advance (recommended) or when boarding the bus (risky in peak times, buses may be full). One bus company, another bus company. You want tickets to/from the bus stop “Bratislava - Most SNP”.

Another reasonable option is to arrive by train: either to Bratislava - Hlavná stanica (Main Train Station) or to the train station Bratislava - Petržalka.

Useful advice

The local currency is the Euro.

Slovakia uses type E sockets (standard in most of Europe), voltage is 230 V / 50 Hz.

Google maps are decent at finding connections using public transport. The imhd website is a popular local alternative. The bus + tram stop closest to accommodation is “Botanická záhrada” (Botanical garden).

We recommend avoiding the local taxicabs. If you want a taxi, use Bolt or Uber instead, it’s usually cheaper and more convenient with better service.
